Who owns the business? Becky Winkler
Why did you start the business? I sold my business in Flint, Mich., in 2000. I didn't like retirement and saw a need for professional grooming.
Is there anything unique about your business that makes it different from the competition? I take the time to talk to my clients. I show them what they need to do at home, so I can give them the look they want. Bichons are hard for most groomers. I did them for show in the '70s. I do a nice pet groom on them.
What challenges do you face in business? Finding groomers when my business grows. I usually train them myself.
What do you like about your business? I enjoy dealing with pet owners. I'm always surprised how little they know about their pet's grooming needs. I also like seeing a finished product. Each dog is very different. Sometimes you have to create a look for just that dog. I call them Heinz 57s.
