Published: December 6, 2008

FROSTPROOF - Devin Clarke scored a game-high 19 points and point guard Chris Grubb had a season-best 16 to lead the Sebring boys basketball team to a 78-57 romp over Frostproof on Thursday.

Streaks head coach Princeton Harris liked what he saw from his Blue Streaks, but remained hungry for perfection.

"I got a chance to see a lot of what I wanted from this team, but I still want to see better production from the free-throw line," Harris said. "We had so many fast-break points off our press, that I didn't get to see a lot of our half-court game, but I like what I've seen from this team heading into our district games."

Kevin Toney finished the game with 13 points and Nate Orosco had 11 to give the Streaks a balanced scoring attack against the Bulldogs.

Sebring is back in action today when they travel to face Sarasota Booker in a Class 4A-District 10 showdown. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER: DeSoto 4, Sebring 0

ARCADIA - Mental mistakes cost the Streaks a key win, as the Sebring boys soccer team fell 4-0 to DeSoto in a Class 4A-District 10 match at Bulldog Field on Thursday.

"We just didn't execute well and far too many mistakes to win against a team like DeSoto," SHS head coach Tim Boulay said. "We had our chances to score but we let those opportunities slip away.

Sebring is back in action on Tuesday when they host the same DeSoto squad at Firemen's Field. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Haines City 60, Avon Park 40

HAINES CITY - Center Cleveland Nobles had 15 points, but a rash of turnovers and early foul trouble plagued Avon Park in a 60-40 loss to Haines City on Thursday.

"We turned the ball over 29 times," AP head coach Luther Clemons said. "That was pretty much the story of the game."

Alonzo Robertson had 10 points and guard Avierre Conner chipped in with eight points in the loss.

Avon Park is back on the court when they host Class 4A-District 10 rival Sarasota Booker on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER: Sebring 1, DeSoto 1

ARCADIA - Maxime Copely scored at the 15-minute mark and Amanda Grimaldo made an amazing save in goal to help Sebring to a 1-1 tie with DeSoto in a Class 4A-District 10 match on Thursday.

Grimaldo made a terrific save on a misdirected shot that should have scored, but the sophomore made a dive to stop the ball and preserve the tie.

"Amanda really came up huge for us, as she does every night," said SHS head coach Steve Ashley. "We had our chances to score, but DeSoto is a vastly improved team from last season."

Sebring will get a second look at DeSoto when they host the Bulldogs at Firemen's Field on Tuesday. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
