UPDATE: Minor Injuries Reported Following Six-Car Crash On U.S. 27

Emergency crews began cleaning up in the aftermath of a six-vehicle crash on U.S. 27 in front of the entrance to the Lakeshore Mall. Traffic moved at much slower pace as officers were busy dealing with the accident.

SEBRING - It looked like a horrific scene Wednesday afternoon, as firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement and wrecking crews worked a six-vehicle accident on U.S. 27 in front of the entrance of Lakeshore Mall.
Debris littered the roadway, and a few of the cars suffered massive damage as a result of the crash.
"It's in tatters," said Trooper Paul Miller, with the Florida Highway Patrol, at the start of the investigation.
Fortunately, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that injuries were only minor, with many involved – including a 6- and 2-year-old child – escaping unscathed.
The crash happened just before 1 p.m., when a 2008 Chevy truck, driven by Ronald L. Owen, 48, of Sebring, ran a southbound red light and struck the left rear side of a 2002 Ford SUV, driven by Lisa S. Kern, 33, of Sebring, who had the green light while making a turn off Vicki Drive, according to the FHP.
Kern's SUV was pushed in a southeast direction, which caused the vehicle to strike a 2005 Mercury four-door, driven by Casey S. Hayes, 27, of Lake Placid. The Mercury was waiting to turn left into the mall from a northbound turn lane.
Debris from the SUV also hit a 2004 Honda four-door, driven by Deborah G. Honderick, 58, of Sebring, which was behind the Mercury in the left-turn lane.
As a result of the initial crash, Owen's Chevy truck started rotating counterclockwise and crossed the center median. The truck then struck a 2003 Toyota four-door, driven by Ashley M. Beck, 23, of Wauchula, and a 2004 Ford two-door, driven by Beverly A. Haynes, 52, of Avon Park, the FHP stated.
Kern and one passenger, Holley Clark, 31, of Sebring, and Hayes suffered minor injuries in the crash. They were taken to Florida Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Total damage for all the cars involved was valued at $22,000. Miller was the investigating officer.
