TEMPLE TERRACE - A young South Florida Community College volleyball team showed improvement in several key areas on Tuesday in a three-set loss to Florida College to open the regular season.
The Panthers were led by Heloise Antony's eight kills and Emmalee Luther's six kills, while Brie Engle had 18 assists, three aces and led the team with 10 digs.
Passing, a practice focal-point heading into the season, has improved, as has the communication on the court, which showed in SFCC taking Florida College to the brink of defeat before dropping the first set 29-27.
The Falcons won the next two sets 25-16 and 25-14 for the sweep, but the Panthers showed they were on the right track, according to SFCC assistant coach Charlotte Bauder.
"The girls really played as team and looked a bit more confident on the court," Bauder said. "All the hard work they've put in really showed on the court and we're looking to steadily improve throughout the season."
SFCC's home opener is tonight at 7 p.m. against Broward Community College.
