AVON PARK - An Avon Park man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $52,000 bond Tuesday, after police say he burglarizing his ex-girlfriend's apartment and tried to choke her once he got inside.

Lynwood Flemings Jr., 33, of 2906 W. Metuchen Road, was charged with burglary of a dwelling with battery within, a first-degree felony, and simple battery.

Police reported that at about 2:26 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, Flemings Jr. entered the home of his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend by breaking a glass window on the door and forcing the door open.

He confronted a 28-year-old Belle Glade man, (it was the man's birthday) and asked him what he was doing in the house. The man ran out of the house and called 911 from the El Paso gas station on U.S. 27, the report stated.

After that, the victim told police that Flemings Jr. pushed her and jumped on her, hitting her face with an open hand. The blow left a small cut on the right side of her nose, the report stated.

Flemings Jr. then grabbed her by the neck with his two hands and began to strangle her to a point where she could not breathe, the report stated. This left three small cuts on the left side of her neck, according to police.

When Flemings Jr. heard the police cars pulling up, he let go and reportedly hid under a bed in the living room. Police ordered him to come out and he was arrested.

The victim told police that she and Flemings Jr. ended their relationship two months ago. Flemings Jr. told police he was angry because she was with another man, the report stated.
