SEBRING - Think of it as if you were kissing your sister or Aunt Mildred - on the lips - but this could actually be more satisfying because the prize is a new car.
Saturn makes the Astra, and to bring attention to the compact the company is sponsoring a national contest called "Kiss My Astra." Contestants just have to have a photo taken of themselves kissing the car - being original but not offensive - and then submit it.

The winner will receive a five-door Astra XR, which is manufactured in Belgium and lists for $22,260.

Five $300 Visa gift cards will be awarded as first place prizes. A total of 14 contestants will receive $100 Visa gift cards for second place.

In Sebring, Ferron Jackson, sales and leasing consultant at the Saturn dealership at 400 U.S. 27 N., will take the photo. The dealership has a white five-door Astra XR in its showroom.

"It's a fun contest to me," Jackson said. "It gives the consumer a chance to be unique and do something you will probably never do."

Judging will be based on creativity, humor of entry and appropriateness to the theme, Jackson said.

The hours of the Sebring store are 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday. The telephone number is 402-4250.

Contestants have to be at least 18 and GM employees and their immediate family members are not eligible.

The deadline to submit a photo is Sept. 6. The winner will be chosen at the end of October.

No purchase is necessary, but contestants will have to register online at www.ImSaturn.com.

There is a three-door Astra XR in Lakeshore Mall that also can be kissed.

A few people have participated locally since the contest began last month, according to Jackson. He noted that there hasn't been a lot of publicity about the contest.
