BackStage Pass To Play At Watering Hole

SEBRING - BackStage Pass will be at the Watering Hole on U.S. 27 in Sebring today and Aug. 9 from 9:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m.

AP Pioneer Homecoming Picnic Scheduled
AVON PARK - The second annual Avon Park Pioneer Homecoming Picnic will be held at noon Aug. 9 at the Avon Park Community Center.

Highlight of the event is recognition of the 2008 Pioneers of the Year, as chosen by the Historical Society of Avon Park, which sponsors the picnic. This year, the pioneers are Nancy Betts Nunnallee and Duane Kopta.

It will be a covered dish affair, with the society providing iced tea, coffee and tableware. The event is open to the community and admission is free.

Entertainment will be provided by the Glad Hatters, the traveling entertainment group affiliated with Highlands Little Theater. A slide show of photos of old Avon Park will also be shown.

Free Vision Screening For Children
AVON PARK - On Aug. 9 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Newsom Eye Clinic, there will be a free vision screening for school children at both the Avon Park and Sebring offices.

Florida Hospital To Hold Safety Fair
SEBRING - Florida Hospital Heartland Division will host the Back-to-School Fun and Safety Fair from 2 - 4 p.m. Aug. 10.

There will be goody bags with pencils, pens, folders and paper.

A total of 50 bike helmets will be given away.

Fly-In Breakfast Slated In AP
AVON PARK - There will be a Fly-In Breakfast sponsored by the Civil Air Patrol Squadron 314 and EAA Heartland Chapter 1240 from 8:30 - 11 a.m. on Aug. 10 at the Avon Park Jet Center, Avon Park Executive Airport.

There will be a complete breakfast including scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, toast, pancakes, coffee, juice buffet style for a $5 donation.

The public is invited to drive, fly or walk in.
