STUART - More than 4,300 16th Congressional District residents heard a live conference call with Congressman Tim Mahoney, focused on high gas prices, energy independence and the economy.
On Wednesday night, Mahoney used a specialized phone service to call households in Florida. If the phone was answered, the person heard a recorded message from Mahoney asking them to stay on the line and join the conference call.
Then, they were automatically connected to the live town hall meeting, where they could ask questions of Mahoney or just listen to the conversation. The tele-town hall gave residents an opportunity to voice their concerns about issues.
"Tonight we showed what can be accomplished in the 21st century by using innovative technology to bring constituents together from across the state," said Congressman Mahoney.
