Winn Dixie Robbed At Gunpoint

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC'S HELP

SEBRING - Police are hoping someone out there heard or saw something that can help them capture an armed robber who held up the Winn Dixie supermarket Friday night.

The store is located at 600 Sebring Square, in the Sebring Square Shopping Center.

Police Lt. Bruce Crum said his officers are looking for a tall, thin-built black male, who concealed his face with a sweatshirt with a hood when he entered the store at about 11 p.m. Friday armed with a handgun.

The gunman demanded money from a clerk and store manager. No shots were fired and no one was injured, Crum said.

He left with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Crum. No merchandise was taken in the heist.

Police were dispatched to the store at 11:11 p.m. and arrived shortly after. They do not want to release information about how the robber got into the store, Crum said.

A K-9 track was conducted without success and police think the gunman got into a car before leaving the shopping center.

The armed robbery was the second armed robbery of a business inside the city limits since the year began.

The first was at about 9:57 p.m., Feb. 11 at the Pizza Hut on U.S. 27.

In that case, two gunmen, who Crum described as black, one 6-foot 2-inches tall, weighing 280 pounds and a second as 6-feet tall and medium build, entered the store, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Crum said the second gunman was described by the victims as being in his 30s. Both robbers wore hoodies.

A K-9 track was conducted in that robbery, also without success.
