AVON PARK - Party-goers heavily damaged the men's restroom at the Avon Park Community Center Saturday evening, multiple city officials alleged.
City Clerk Cheryl Tietjen showed photos she took of the restroom, which had holes in the wall that were bigger than foot prints. Boot prints were plastered along the wall leading to the restroom, and trash was littered all over the back entrance.
She described the damage as the worst seen after a single-hosted event in the center's history.
Tietjen and City Manager Sarah Adelt blamed some of the party-goers who attended a quinceanera, a Mexican party celebrating a girl's 15th birthday that took place there Saturday. More than 300 attended it.
The city requires a $400 deposit for any party where alcohol is served. Tietjen said the entire deposit and more money would be needed to repair the restroom, where new drywall was needed to fix the holes.
Monday's edition of Highlands Today featured this quinceanera. It is unknown exactly when the damages to the restroom occurred.
