SEBRING — The Highlands County Sheriff's Office announced in a press release Tuesday that they have arrested a suspect in connection to a series of car fishing incidents in the Harder Hall and Sparta Road area.
Travis James Bowers, 17, of 3827 S. Erin Road, Sebring, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Sunday morning and charged with armed burglary of a conveyance and resisting officers without violence.
According to the release, the sheriff's office began nightly car burglary operations in the neighborhoods. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit and Tac Team sat in unmarked surveillance vehicles at night in an attempt to locate suspects.
On Sunday morning, detectives allegedly observed Bowers dressed in all black, attempting to open the door to one of their unmarked vehicles. When detectives exited the vehicle, Bowers allegedly fled, leading to a foot pursuit with the sheriff office's K-9 Team. The incident took place at the intersection of Medina Way and West Lake Drive Boulevard.
Bowers was eventually captured, and found to be in the possession of a revolver.
According to the press release, Bowers was arrested on Feb. 24, in connection to the same series of burglaries, and had to be captured by a K-9 team.
Following his arrest, Bowers was released to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, in Bartow.
