SEBRING — The professionals flexed their muscles on day one of the Highlands County Ryder Cup at Highlands Ridge North.
The pros, who look to rebound from last year's one-point loss, have a three-point lead (4 1/2-1 1/2) after the morning round that saw a 30-minute rain delay.
Pete DuPriest and John Vickers defeated the amateur team of Mike Browning and Rene Brown 2-1 in the 2-man, best ball morning format.
In other results, Jason Laman and Marty Hora defeated Rick Haas and Dana Harris 3-2, while Mike Lamere and Jason Beatty won 3-2 over Scott Mauck and John Forst to give the pro's an early 3-0 lead.
The amateurs fought back with the team of Grover Crawford and Keith Foster earning a tie over Andy Kesling and Brian Bone, while Ken Maloney and Mark Pinson tied the team of Paul Gorgone and John Phillips to earn a point.
Amateur's Mike Wells and Mike Cleghorn played even with the team of Bill Newman and John Bean to split the point. The players were set to tee off for the afternoon alternate shot event just after 2 p.m. See Monday's paper for complete day one results.
The Ryder Cup continues today with 16 singles matches, slated to begin at 8 a.m.
