Oh, if only I could express the things to be enjoyed about the Heartland Idol competition. Not a person in Highlands or the surrounding counties would be home on the nights the contest is going on.
The talent in the county is beyond belief. Of course, the contest is open to people other than those living in Highlands County. But I have to brag about the county. Not only do you get out to enjoy the show but it is free. Plus, it gives you a chance to meet some people you wouldn't have met just sitting at home in your lounger, and to be able to grab a hot dog for just a dollar or a brat for $2. Then, you have the fun of eating it while keeping the mustard off your clothes. Remember how good food tastes outdoors?
The master of ceremonies keeps the show running smooth as well as adding a little spice. The youngest of the contestants have a way of adding their own spice, and to watch their parents on the sidelines holding their breath until their dear one is finished. This year, one of the contestant's dad was a contestant also, and it was breathtaking to see the young lady be so proud of her dad.
Then there is the judging. You might not always agree with the judges, but I have to admit, it is a job I wouldn't want. They have it rough.
Come on out and enjoy the fun and if you don't enjoy the performance, I bet you could get the money you spent for admission refunded.
