Customer Becomes Salon Owner

SEBRING – Although not a hairdresser, after being a customer for 12 years, Tammy Sueppel decided to become the new owner when Changes Salon and Tanning came up for sale in March 2007.

"When the owner decided to sell, I looked into it and felt I could do it," Sueppel said. This salon differs from most because each person leases their space and operates as an independent contractor. All are licensed cosmetologists and offer full beauty services. Together they have a total of 122 years experience.

Chanea Turner, a hairdresser for three years, specializes in hair extensions and body wraps. Stephanie Sapp has 15 years experience and specializes in colors and hair extensions. In business for 8 years, Tara Vickory specializes in colors and waxing men's eyebrows. Amy Coulter's 15 years makes her a specialist with short hair and colors.

With 17 years experience, Kari Kerns focuses on long hair and colors. After 38 years, Katie Baumer's forte is haircuts and razor cuts.

Nail technician Tammy Vickers has eight years' experience. She enjoys using the brand new pedicure chair and also offers body wraps. Cheryle Martz has been a massage therapist for four years. Randy Cairns has 14 years experience and specializes in deep tissue massage and body wraps.

"I plan on more remodeling, but best of all are the compliments we receive as to how clean everything is," Sueppel said. "I want to maintain the relaxing spa atmosphere, so that customers feel they're getting a special treat when they come here."

Changes Salon offers a variety of products such as Gurkee's sandals, which float in water and can be machine washed. Some of their tanning lotions are Designer Skin, OC products and Swedish Beauty. Hemp lotions are available in cucumber, jasmine, and regular. They carry Redken, Paul Mitchell, Coral Therapy, Ruck, Una, Biolage, Matrix, and Sudzz hair products. In addition, one stand-up and four lay-down tanning beds are available at Changes Salon.

"I'm looking for a facial specialist to add within the next six months," Sueppel said.

Her concern is to maintain one big happy family atmosphere at the salon.

"I respect everyone's feelings and we'll decide together on the new hire in order to maintain the good feelings we share here," she said.

Changes Salon and Tanning is located at 209 U.S. 27 S., across from Lake Jackson in Lakeview Plaza in Sebring. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 386-0777 for an appointment.
