SEBRING — Police Cmdr. Steve Carr wants to alert the driving public of a change in road signage at the end of Lakeview Drive and U.S. 27 South, next to CVS pharmacy, and across from Wendy's restaurant.
For many years the sign has read "no right turn." But no more, Carr said.
The new signage has been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation in Bartow to read "no right on red," meaning turn right on the green only.
"It's a potentially dangerous area over there," Carr said, stating that driver's used to be forced to turn right where Lakeview turns into a Y intersection and then try to cross over three lanes to the Sparta Road left turn lane, while dodging the flow of traffic.
The purpose of the change, Carr said, is to afford drivers protection trying to cross over the three northbound lanes and enter safely into the lengthened left turn lane for Sparta Road.
