LAKE PLACID –– Overcoming adversity.
That's what the Lake Placid High School football team is faced with heading into tonight's game against Celebration.
The Class 2A Green Dragons lost a tough 34-7 decision to Fort Pierce John Carroll Catholic last week and must bounce back in a hurry against an athletic Storm team.
"We didn't play very well last week," Lake Placid first-year coach Tim Grant said. "We made a lot of mistakes and had some turnovers and just didn't execute.
"We've had a good week of practice and worked on a lot of things that went wrong last week and I think we're ready to play this week."
Celebration, which lost 22-0 to Wildwood last week, runs a Wing-T and Double-Wing formation on offense.
"They try and run a lot of misdirection plays, but we've just got to follow our keys and stay in our gaps," Grant said. "We've got the speed to contain their offense, we just need to execute and tackle well."
The Class 1B Storm run a 5-3 defense and Grant thinks the Dragons can have some success through the air behind the arm of senior quarterback Conlin Veley.
"They aren't as athletic or as quick as we are and if we can complete some passes, we could have some big plays," the Green Dragon coach said. "Conlin had a good week of practice throwing the ball and we have the speed to create some big plays if we can execute."
The two teams have met twice before with Lake Placid winning 20-0 in 2005 and again last year by a 36-21 margin.
"Last week is over and behind us," Grant said. "We're ready to get back on track and come away with a win."
