Hindsight And What-Ifs

Randy Ludacer's letter to Highlands Today, Aug. 25, gives good coverage on the failures and follies that cost us 58,000 men in Vietnam. Of course history is loaded with 20/20 hindsight and what-ifs.

What if Presidents Roosevelt and Truman had stood up to Stalin at Potsdam and Yalta? What if the Brits had not voted Churchill out of office, replacing him with a weaker than weak Clement Attlee?

Stalin never fooled Churchill. What if the French had been told that they had not earned any right to sit at the table with the real world powers. Gen. Douglass McArthur saved us a lot of grief by standing up to the Soviets and preventing them from occupying Japanese home islands after the Soviet Union declared war on Japan two weeks before the end of the war.

I have no doubt the U.S. Army Air Forces and the Royal Air Force could have established air superiority over the Red Army and bombed them into oblivion. Gen. Patton wanted to go on to Moscow and take them over. What if this had been allowed.

Fast forward to the present and consider a few "what ifs:"

The Democrats had joined our country in fighting the terrorists instead of giving aid and comfort to our enemies and complaining about every thing our government did to protect our country?

The Democrats hated our enemies and the terrorist as much as they hate President Bush?

The Democrats understood that we were attacked by militant radical Muslims many times before 9-11 and that we are at war with militant Islam?

The Democrats would help in this war we are in instead of trying to surrender to the enemy?

Then President Carter had bombed Iran into the next century when Iran grabbed our people and our embassy instead of allowing Iran to hold them 444 days?

No illegal aliens were in our country in September 2001?

The possibilities for a different world are endless and a waste of time to dwell on them because the Democrats, along with other Democrat entities, NY Times, CBS, NBC, CNN, Boston Globe, Los Angles Times and other liberal media want us to fail in the Middle East. The Democrats want us to lose also.
