And the thunder rolled.

The late-summer rains came in a hurry to wash away what was turning out to be a solid outing for the Sebring Blue Streaks boys golf team at the Lake Brantley Invitational at the Wekiva Country Club on Saturday.

Mother Nature ended the event early before Sebring had a chance to finish the 10-team tournament hosted by Lake Brantley High School and featuring at least a dozen players with commitments to Division-1 colleges.

The Blue Streaks did well on the challenging Wekiva course, as senior Aaron Snyder carded a 36 on the tight front nine, while junior Zach Foster finished with a solid 40.

Snyder was tied for fifth spot before played was halted. Playing against the top golfers in the state can only help improve their play, as the team takes shape early in the season.

"I'm pleased the way the team performed," Sebring head coach John Snyder said. "I've got a solid top four players now, but I'm still looking to fill the fifth and sixth spot over the next four weeks of matches."

Junior Blake Liles was 2-over with two holes to play and Cory Watt was 3-over with three holes to go before the tournament was called.

Sebring is coming off a loss to arch-rival Avon Park Red Devils on Thursday, but its top three players sat out to give inexperienced players a chance to shine and see who will take over the final two spots before district competition begins.

The Bishop Moore Hornets had the top two players on the links for the tournament. Bishop Moore's Sam Ryder led all golfers with his round of 71, while Brandon Ramirez shot a 72 for the Hornets. Providence Christian's Cole Englehardt shot a 73 to round out the top three.

Bishop Moore finished in first with a team score of 380, while Dr. Phillips and Lake Highland each tallied a 385.

The Blue Streaks are back on the links today when they travel to take on Bartow at 4 p.m. and will host George Jenkins on Thursday.
