John Carroll Runs Away From Green Dragons

LAKE PLACID — Fort Pierce John Carroll Catholic broke open a close game with a 20-point third quarter outburst, sending the Golden Rams to a 34-7 win over Lake Placid on Friday night at Roger Scarborough Stadium.

Holding just a 7-0 lead at halftime, the Rams picked off a pass on the Green Dragons first drive of the third quarter and scored on a T.J. Mullins keeper four plays later.

One play after that, Javaris Giles ran back a fumble recovery 28 yards for another Rams score.

Another interception led to an eight-play drive, culminating in a Robert Dimarco two-yard plunge for a 27-0 lead.

Demetrius Williams got Lake Placid on the board with a 78-yard fumble return to get the home crowd
on their feet.

A Navahri Holden interception on John Carroll's next drive seemed to keep the momentum on the Dragon's side.

But a fumbled exchange gave the ball back to the Rams.

John Carroll then ground out a 15-play drive that didn't produce any points, but ran a lot of time off the clock and quelled any comeback hopes.

Greg Buderus added a 27-yard touchdown run late for the final score and ended up with 146 yards on 18 carries for the night.

Chevontray Wilson led the Green Dragon ground attack with 72 yards on 13 carries.

The win moved John Carroll to 1-0 on the season, while the loss dropped Lake Placid to 1-1.

"They (John Carroll) were just fired up and ready to play," Green Dragon coach Tim Grant said. "We let down a little after the first week win (over Liberty).

"We'll just have to go back to square one and get ready for next week."

Lake Placid hits the road on Friday night for a game at Celebration.
