Well, I can still remember the Depression days, in 1930, when I was a small child. We all had it pretty rough. My father worked for the W.P.A., which was a government job, which was started by the government for poor and needy families.
I remember as a small girl making trips to our local fire department for free milk and bread. The school board furnished us children our shoes and a milk lunch each day for the needy families.
Yes, there were many charities in those days and our family was so thankful and grateful for their help. There was so much love and support in those days.
We should not be ashamed to be poor, but you must be ashamed if you don't try to better yourself when work is available. We all made it through the Depression days, and learned to appreciate everything we received when the better days came.
Nowadays, our average family have it much better, even the so-called poor. But it seems we are still having rough days, spending more than our average families can afford.
There is so much disagreement in our government and political leaders. Too many have forgotten that we must put our great country first. Together we stand, divided we fall.
Well, I could go on and on, but our "old timers" can see and realize that some changes must be made in the coming future. Our "rough times" will face us also.
In looking back to 1930, it wasn't really too bad, for we, as Americans, learned a lot the hard way. I hope and pray our coming generation can learn by our past mistakes. Let us all pray for better days for our country.
