In response to the letter in the Oct. 15 letters from Julia Holmes: Dear Julia, I can't begin to tell you the number of times that you brightened my day when I came to the VA clinic, and I know that you went above and beyond many times to help veterans with scheduling problems, or to help them understand the myriad of paperwork.
More than once I watched you work your magic as you turned a grumpy old sourpuss back 30 years with a grin on his face, and you did it with patience, some small anecdote, and that engaging smile that none of us could resist.
You know who I am since I have become more or less a regular visitor this past year. I truly believe that the VA has made a serious error in judgment by not keeping you on.
I wish you the very best in whatever you choose to do. You know how to contact me and I venture to say that there are several hundred other veterans who will line up behind me to give you whatever kind of references you might need for future employment. How would you like to be president?
