BARTOW — A grand jury indicted on Thursday an Avon Park man arrested in the shooting death of a Lakeland man Sept. 26.
Edgar Elijah Brown, 23, of 409 W.I. Kirkland St., Avon Park, has been charged with first-degree murder of Luther T. Golliday.
The investigation indicated that Brown first became involved in a verbal confrontation with the victim when Golliday's car door bumped Brown at Club Kathleen in Lakeland on Sept. 26. Brown later located Golliday in a parking lot at the BP Station in Lakeland.
Brown walked toward Golliday, who was sitting on the back of a parked vehicle, and shot him three times, according to investigators. Brown then fled the scene by vehicle.
Golliday was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Brown was arrested in Highlands County Oct. 5 for the offense of capital murder.
