Too Late Horoscope

Published: October 11, 2007

My horoscope for this past Tuesday as determined by Eugenia in the Highlands Today Astrology column, stated; "Things are looking up and opportunities are apparent. Try your hand at something new or offer a service that you can do for extra cash. You can learn something new if you research over the Internet, sign up for a course or talk to someone with experience." It is a five star day for me.

Well, she is right in one sense, as I am up to my eyeballs in a job that I have taught myself and have no idea most of the time exactly what I am doing. Somehow in the past I have managed to pull off my bluff and get the job done with what many call exceptional success.

That job I'm referring to is putting together a 20-page newspaper and have it proofed and ready for press in one week. How you can put out a paper every day is beyond belief to me.

Lack Of Ambition

She is wrong in saying that things are looking up with great opportunities because I have absolutely no desire to try to take her up on another opportunity by trying something new. Sure, I would like a bit more income but if it takes any work effort or time away from doing nothing, I'm afraid I have neither to give away. It is greatly unfair that in my youthful years I had a hard time trying to find a money-making opportunity. It was not until I was retired and supposed to start taking it easy that things started happening that led me into a new profession and established a new style of living that has likely trapped me into having to work until I can't set up at this computer.

No Manual Labor For Me

I can recall when as an air traffic controller, people would ask how I could do such a job and wasn't it too stressful. Well, it was somewhat stressful but it certainly wasn't labor intensive. And although it had moments of sheer terror it had many, many hours of boredom.

This job of working behind a computer screen is also not labor intensive but it is, as far as I am concerned, more stressful than working lots of aircraft at a busy airport. I can sit here for hours and still not get finished. When I finish this column I have to write a report to give at a meeting I will be attending this evening and then get back into my newspaper and find some news to put in the blank spots.

Many Things To Do

I am serious about the statement of being up to my eyeballs in work already and that implies that I am having trouble breathing comfortably.

Today is the PW's birthday and while she has already received her gift, I haven't gotten her the usual bouquet of flowers and a card telling her how much I love her. I really need to get to the florist very soon and then cut my lawn and hope that those who have not sent in their articles have done so after that.

It's getting more and more frequent as I age that "I sleep like a baby." I am waking up every two hours and feeling very hungry.

I have no idea why a toaster will give me the opportunity to burn my toast to an uneatable charred chunk.
