Hmmm. Let's dream a little bit.
Sebring officials are working their tails off trying to get Harder Hall sold, but they might have missed an incredibly lucrative idea this time of year. They should have turned the historic hotel into the best Halloween scary place in Florida.
Perhaps a partnership with Universal Studios or Busch Gardens could have been fashioned, and at $65 per head, just imagine all the money that would have flowed in here. Both entities make an incredible profit this time of year with their terrifying Halloween offerings.
Universal and Busch Gardens learned a few years ago how they could make a fortune during a historically slow time of year. The intensity of the scare-fest is suited mainly for adults, but Disney is now offering something less scary for younger children. Scaring people is big business these days.
People who love scary stuff will drive 100 miles to see something amazing. In the Midwest Sebring's location wouldn't be a problem if the quality is there. Just imagine what Harder Hall could become with professionals turning it into something special. Actually, not that much is needed.
We're kidding, of course, but has there ever been a place better suited for a Halloween haunted hotel than Harder Hall? In disrepair, with overgrown weeds and everything else, it's creepy just driving by the place at night. And most of the people who have been in there in the last few years attest to shivers running up their spines when strange noises come from above.
Of course all of this is impossible due to a thousand reasons, most importantly liability issues, but it's fun just thinking about it. That wonderful old building probably has thousands of stories to tell. We hope whomever is the buyer that the grand hotel keeps standing. It might not be as scary once everything's fixed up, but it still has potential.
