SEBRING — With the district golf tournaments coming up in less than 10 days, the boys and girls high school teams in the Heartland are honing their swings to a fine edge.

The Sebring boys team rolled to easy wins on Thursday by shooting a four-person score of 157 over the back nine of the Deer Run course at Sun 'N Lake Country Club.

Leading the way in the tri-match for the Class 2A Blue Streaks, who improved to 22-5 on the season, was senior Aaron Snyder, who carded a 1-over-par 37, while junior Zach Foster shot a 38, sophomore Blake Liles came in with a 40 and Cory Watt rounded out the scoring with a 42.

"I'm real pleased with our team score," said Sebring coach John Snyder. "The kids are starting to gel as a team and we're playing some of our best golf of the season.
"We're real solid in the top three spots, and we have three or four other kids that have the ability to shoot low scores and a couple of them need to step up at district tournament time."

Lake Region, which placed second, was led by Tyler Mancuso's 42, while Lake Wales finished third behind J. Roy Rowland's 46.
The Avon Park boys team is hosting the Heartland Invitational today at Pinecrest Country Club.
The Class 1A Red Devils are competing against DeSoto, Hardee, Lake Placid and Sebring in an 18-hole match.

"This a good tune-up for us because the districts are coming up and we are still working on our course management," said Avon Park coach Bobby Barben. "We've had a good season, but we need to be at our best if we want to qualify for regionals."

AP Girls Golfers Stay Unbeaten

The Avon Park girls team remained unbeaten by winning a quad match at The Bluffs golf course in Arcadia on Thursday.

The Red Devils, who were missing No. 1 player Shelby Dressel, shot a four-person score of 240, and were paced by Courtney Robinson's season-best 51. Sarah Hunnicutt carded a 59, Paige Moffat shot a 64 and Katelyn Stoll came in with a 66.

The highlight of the day for Avon Park was Robinson's hole-in-one.
DeSoto placed second with a 241, while Hardee shot a 247 and Lake Placid finished with a 272.
The Sebring girls golf team played in a tri-match in Lake Howell on Thursday.

Lake Howell won the match with a 162, while Sebring shot a 168 and Celebration finished third at 215 in the nine-hole match played at the Country Club of Deer Run.
The Blue Streaks, who are an impressive 40-11 overall this season, were led by senior Heather Brownell's 39, senior Kayla Dunn came in with a 40, senior Julianne Lind carded a 42 and Melissa Luke shot a 47.

"I'm real pleased with our scores," said Sebring coach Tom McClurg. "The girls have been working hard and we're playing some of our best golf of the season.
"With the district tournament at Sebring Golf Club, which is our home course, we have an advantage and we're going to work really hard on our short games and our putting, because every shot matters."
