It's great news to hear that the Nan-Ces-O-Wee Hotel in downtown Sebring is under new ownership. The building should be a vital part of the downtown rather than a condemned mess. From what the new owner says, good things are in the works for the historic building.
Napoleon Real Estate of Miami purchased the building and wants to know what the public would like to see in the building. Jhonson Napoleon, owner of the real estate company, is considering condos, a restaurant and anything else that will be a good fit for the city and a profitable venture for the company. We would love to see all of these things.
The key to any vibrant downtown is getting people living in the core, shopping there and providing entertainment to bring others to the area. Sebring's downtown isn't far from having what's needed, and restaurants and nightclubs can make a huge difference and bring an area to life.
Sometimes just the right business or two will spark life in a commercial area. Downtown supporters understand this and have been working toward that for some time. Perhaps the Nan-Ces-O-Wee is one of the final pieces to the puzzle.
Transforming this hotel into something usable, attractive and exciting has been needed for decades. The last owner, however, let the place fall into disrepair, and has been a constant target for intruders who use the place for partying.
It will be exciting to see the Nan-Ces-O-Wee come to life in a new way and become an important part of Sebring's downtown core.
