In Reference to the Friday article, "Signs, Signs, Everywhere A Sign." I am glad to see that they are finally going to do something about all the illegal sign postings on all the telephone poles, stop signs and along the side of the road. It makes our county look terribly trashy.
But I disagree with the fact that the county code enforcement people are having to remove them. It would be better if the people that put them up were to take them down. The code enforcement people should just write down the location of the sign and then call the people that put it up.
They should be told that one of their signs was seen on the road side and that until it is removed they will be fined $500 a day till the sign is removed and that would include any other signs of theirs that are spotted. Let them drive around and remove the signs.
I also urge people to call 402-6641 and report any signs that they see on the side of the road. The county could make quite a bit of money from illegal sign postings. I am not referring to signs put up by people looking for a lost puppy or even a garage sale. These people remove their signs when the event is over. I am talking about all the businesses that are using our road sides for free advertising of We Buy Your House, Remortgage Your Home, Vacation Specials and things of that nature. Let these people find their signs and get them off the side of the road and until they do, let them pay the daily fine. Just give them a call and tell them that their daily fine is adding up.
