A Pleasant Surprise

Published: November 28, 2007

I have been a snowbird for years and took up permanent residence in Sebring seven years ago. I love it! The best place in the states to live.

Like most snowbirds I did all my doctoring when I was "up north." You know everything "up north" was just a little bit better (ha!) Well, did I get my eyes opened.

A few weeks back, a health problem developed and in the process of a solution, I was to be looked at by Drs. Geldart, Ruiz, Thomas-Richards and Patel. I found them not only highly competent but highly compassionate and so friendly. I have never experienced that in my relationship with any doctor anywhere.

Also, in the process of tests, etc., I was under the care of many nurses, aides, technicians, receptionists, etc. and they all were like the doctors, absolutely the friendliest people I have ever met. My daughter, a registered nurse from South Florida, was walking me through the process and was just as amazed. It made the whole experience pleasant.

The results: cancer, with a prognosis of two months. From perfect health to that discovery in a period of three weeks. The reaction: joy! God has blessed me for 86 years with everything a man could possibly want. I know where I am going and what awaits me there.

I love the following quote: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body. But rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow, what a ride!"

In closing, thanks to the doctors and those my paths crossed with in the process, for your competence, compassion and friendliness. May God bless you all.
