After reading the article about U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez and his efforts to raise money for the 2010 election, I have come up with a suggestion for him and all other politicians with the same problem. Why don't they just focus on doing a good job now.
If they were to do the job of serving the people successfully, then they would be re-elected no matter how much money they have or don't have. All the millions they spend bombarding us with ads filled with lies, mud slinging and empty promises, could then be spent on more important things, like people.
I, for one, am disgusted by the focus that people, especially politicians, place on money, and by the lack of concern for actual people instead. This once great nation is going down the toilet, with so much attention being paid to money, sex and power. We need to get back to being a nation that values honesty and democracy, freedom and justice.
That's what made us the greatest country on Earth, and we need to remember that. Forget fundraising, and just do the job honestly.
