SEBRING — Police were still investigating Thursday a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred late Wednesday afternoon on southbound U.S. 27 in front of Alan Jay Automotive Network's corporate office.
William D. Murray, 54, of Sebring, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was employed at Alan Jay Ford as the parts manager. He had been employed at that Ford dealership for about 17 years, staying on as it changed hands.
Police say Tracy L. Rademaker, 47, of Sebring, had just made a left turn from the northbound U.S. 27 and was turning into a nearby business when she said Murray, riding a 2007 Harley Davidson, was just there in front of her.
Murray became pinned under the Kia van, according to Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr.
Murray had just attended a meeting at the corporate office, according to a coworker. When the meeting ended he pulled out, when the crash happened.
The coworker, who did not wish to be identified, said Murray was a real gentleman, sweet, soft spoken, smiling. She used the words "conscientious" and "meticulous" to describe him as an employee.
No charges had been filed by press time.
"The case is still under investigation," Carr said. "We're still interviewing witnesses to determine what happened."
