On Aug. 23, I called the Highlands County Code Enforcement Department to see what could be done about a horrible situation in Lake Placid. The Viking Estates Trailer Park stood in almost total ruin, with a few people actually living in these horrible conditions. Some were even living without electricity.
As I write this letter, the trailers are being dismantled. I would like to thank the Highlands County Code Enforcement Department, especially April Harseil, for finally getting the Viking Estates Trailer Park condemned. She pulled no punches in doing her best to make this happen.
People are always condemning government officials for lack of action, but this case proves things can happen if the right people care.
