LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid football team faces a tough road test this week as the Green Dragons hope to reverse course and steal a victory from Class 2A-District 5 foe St. Pete Catholic.
The Green Dragons, who've lost five straight, showed marked improvement in last week's loss to Bishop Verot on both sides of the ball, though costly turnovers and a late Viking scoring blitz at the end of the first half were more than LP could overcome in the 31-0 defeat.
Starting quarterback Zach Campbell filled in for injured senior Conlin Veley and orchestrated the offense well, completing 5 of 7 passes for 20 yards and rushing for 11 yards on six carries.
The Dragons also got a boost from the return of starting senior running back Rashaad Brown, who took the game's first seven hand-offs and finished with 58 yards on 14 carries.
Also returning was senior Josh Hickey, who immediately made his presence known with two interceptions and 10 tackles.
LP will need that and more tonight at 7:30 when the teams meet for the third time overall. The Barons have won both games, 31-9 in 2005 and 48-25 in '06.
