SEBRING - SEBRING - T.J. Williams rushed for 166 yards and two touchdowns and passed for a third touchdown to lead the Sebring Blue Streaks to a 36-14 victory over cross-county rival Avon Park at Firemen's Field on Friday.
The loss eliminates Avon Park, who are 1-8 on the season, from playoff contention, as the Red Devils held a slim chance if Hardee lost to DeSoto in their matchup.
Sebring, which has defeated the Red Devils two-straight seasons, improves to 5-4, but were ousted from the playoffs after the loss to Hardee, who owns the tiebreaker over the Blue Streaks.
With the Streaks up 17-0, quarterback Steve Fortner pitched the ball back to Williams, who connect with Sam Robinson for a 30-yard score to increase the lead to 24-0 just before halftime.
Sebring's defense held the Red Devils to just 72 yards of total offense in the first half, while more than doubling their opponent's offensive output.
Avon Park, which had been shutout of six times this season, scored on a beautiful 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Albert Moses to junior Shevas Hicks to get the Red Devils on the board.
The touchdown pass was Moses' first this season.
Avon Park looked to be making some noise in the second half.
Down 30-8, the Red Devils were building momentum when Robinson timed Moses' pass perfectly, picking off the throw without breaking stride for the touchdown.
