BELLEVIEW –– Sebring's Brenita Grant may not have put up huge numbers in the stat column, but her play against the Gulf High Buccaneers on Saturday proved the difference in the Blue Streaks' 45-37 victory in the championship game of the Lady Rattlers Holiday Tournament.
Down 34-29 heading into the final eight minutes, Sebring head coach Mike Lee decided to make a change.
"We switched to man-to-man defense and that was a key to our win," Lee said. "[Brenita] shut down [Gulf's] guards. She played amazing for us."
With her stellar defense, Grant helped the Streaks outscore Gulf 16-3 in the fourth for the win and earned tournament MVP honors.
The Streaks trailed throughout the contest, as the Buccaneers picked apart the Sebring zone with great inside/out play, which forced Lee to make the switch.
Senior Whitney Lee led the Streaks with 15 points, while Hannah Shoop had 10 points and Chelsea Davis and Whitney Wells both chipped in eight points in the win.
Sebring (13-4) will take a break to ring in the new year before getting back on the court Jan. 5 when they travel to face Land 'O Lakes.
