Regarding the story about a Lake Placid man charged with attempted murder:
This story raises some serious questions for the residents of Sebring, Avon Park, Lake Placid and surrounding areas.
Why would a person with non-life threatening injuries have to be flown to the Tampa area? Are our hospitals in this area not qualified to handle such emergencies? Who pays for this several thousand dollar airlift?
It is apparent from your story that this victim has no insurance or financial means to pay for this trip. I am sure ambulance service could transport her much more quickly to one of our local hospitals.
Also, who makes this decision as to the means of transportation being used? Does this person have an interest with the flight service? Maybe the area hospitals would not accept her due to lack of insurance?
In closing, if the hospitals are not qualified to handle this type of emergency, where does the public have to go to be treated?
