When I read about the war in Iraq, and how brutal it is, I think about how brutal that nation has been throughout history.
The Bible has a very vivid description of Babylon, or modern day Iraq. Habakkuk 1:6 describes them as "a cruel and violent people." This was written in 600 B.C., or over 2,600 years ago.
That description should not surprise us today. The Lord will be in charge till the end, but for now we must control their violence. The nations surrounding Iraq will not have peace as long as this culture of violence exists.
I believe the United States and our allies can only hope to contain them, and keep them from destroying or capturing the surrounding nations, like what happened just before the first Gulf War, when they captured the nation of Kuwait.
The Middle East will not know peace until those nations learn to live with each other. I don't see that happening any time soon.
