GIRLS BASKETBALL Sebring 62, Frostproof 31
FROSTPROOF — Whitney Lee had 18 points and Brenita Grant added 10 more Friday night as the Sebring girls basketball team ended each quarter with big runs to romp past Frostproof 62-31 in a non-district meeting.
Zykeria Dawkins added eight points, Max Copley had six points and six rebounds and seven Streaks recorded a steal in a game that saw Sebring hit 4 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc.
The Streaks closed out the first half on a 13-2 run to take a 20-point lead at the half, then ended the third on a 10-1 run to seal the deal and allow the starters to rest.
"We were able to get everyone in the game," said Sebring coach Mike Lee. "It was fun watching everyone having fun and playing hard."
The Streaks won't be resting over the holiday break: Sebring will travel to Belleview for the 16-team Belleview Holiday tournament, which begins Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL Avon Park 57, Auburndale 16
AVON PARK — Markida Hawthorne had 14 points and Daija Barrett added 12 Friday night as the Avon Park girls basketball team rolled to a 57-16 victory over Auburndale in a non-district game at APHS.
The Red Devils, who improve to 14-4 on the season, next play on Jan. 4 at McKeel.
BOYS SOCCER Sebring 1, LaBelle 1
SEBRING — Jazan Jimenez scored an early goal, but a packed schedule caught up to the Sebring boys soccer team in the second half, as LaBelle tied the game and forced the Streaks into a 1-1 draw in a non-district match at Firemen's Field.
The tie keeps Sebring's unbeaten streak in tact, stretching it to 11 games.
"We played well in the first half, but three games a week took its toll," said Sebring coach Paul Brown. "We were a bit tired, and they were a good team that controlled the ball well."
The Streaks, who improved to 10-4-3 overall after the non-district match, are off until Jan. 8, when they'll take on Frostproof.
"Last year, we played well after Christmas," Brown said. "We have to make sure we don't eat too much Christmas pudding, and we'll have a couple practices over break to keep them on their toes."
BOYS SOCCER Lake Placid vs. Avon Park (postponed)
AVON PARK — The boys soccer game between the Green Dragons and Red Devils was postponed Friday night due to a lack of players on the AP side.
LP coach Josh Virkler said he hopes to reschedule the game for sometime in January.
