The claims made in the "Legacy of Failure" article are similar to those of all the haters of President Bush and America. If they were true it would make you want to pack up and move to Eastern Wizzyhakastan or somewhere where things are obviously much better. Fortunately, the claims are not true.
Bush won the 2000 election fair and square. Every liberal outfit around has reviewed the results and found that Gore lost, period. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that invalid votes could not be cherry picked and interpreted to change the result. In the 2004 election Bush won 81 percent of all the counties in America, that's hardly by a thread.
Yes, it is also true Bush wanted to be a uniter not a divider, however, the liberal left, smarting from their election losses, would have no part of it. Even after we were attacked on Sept. 11, Hillary Clinton was asking: "What did he know and when did he know it?" The result was and still is gridlock in Congress.
When Osama Bin Laden and his terrorists attacked New York, Bush promised a response. He made good on that promise by routing the Taliban in Afghanistan. A year or so later Saddam Hussein, a supporter of terrorism, was given an ultimatum to rid himself of WMDs. In 1998 Bill Clinton came before the nation to explain his attack on Iraq because Saddam Hussein had WMDs and was pursuing nuclear weapons. Saddam, as he did back then, defied the UN and America, resulting in the Iraq war.
That war was won in short order but winning the peace a different matter. Like war time presidents before him (Lincoln, Roosevelt and Truman) generals were replaced until desired results were achieved. Today General Patraeus and the surge strategy is working in spite of naysayers like the liberal media and Democrats who continuously called for surrender and withdrawal of our army.
Our military is only decimated in the minds of its haters. The truth is the U.S. Army is the greatest and most modern force in the history of the world.
Our economy remains strong with gross domestic product highest of any country in the world. Inflation is at 2.5 percent and unemployment down to 4.4 percent with nearly 9 million jobs created since 2003.
Also, federal tax revenues have increased 35 percent, due to the Bush tax cut for working Americans.
Because of it the federal deficit was significantly reduced and three years ahead of Bush's plan to cut it in half by the time he leaves office. Unfortunately, the liberal media is hesitant to report it properly or perhaps they just missed that little nugget. Yes, it is true that America is the world's largest importer but not the largest exporter. That position was lost under Bill Clinton and the Democrats.
America faces a host of problems in the future, mainly security against Islamist terror and domestic entitlements. The war on terror is real but unfortunately, some of us have forgotten what happened on Sept. 11. The most important job of our president has is to protect the citizenry. To take all measures necessary to keep us and our children alive. We can only hope the next president has the wisdom to do just that.
Regarding the entitlements, i.e., Social Security, Medicare, universal health care etc., we must maintain a strong economy in order to do anything. I believe the one thing that will surely tank our economy would be to raise taxes.
Lastly, America was founded on Christian ideology. It permeates our laws and way of life. Because of it we are the greatest country in the world. Our founding fathers knew this and so stated in the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution forbids establishing one single national church but not religion per se. Over 86 percent of Americans are Christian. The principles of America, according to the founding fathers, are ordained by God. Failure to adhere is a very dangerous road if we truly care about America.
