SEBRING — A Sebring man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $66,000 bail Monday after Sebring police say he was arrested while walking down Roseland Avenue with a sword and a large knife.
Harvey Archibald Largent, 49, of 1510 Roseland Ave., Sebring, was booked Thursday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, causing cruel death, pain and suffering to an animal, assault on a law enforcement officer, firefighter or EMT, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
It was about 2:38 p.m. Thursday, when police arrived on the scene and ordered Largent to drop his knife and sword. It took him a while but he put the weapons down.
Dispatchers had earlier received a call the suspect could be carrying a shotgun, which turned out not to be the case, said Police Cmdr. Steve Carr on Friday.
He reportedly was trying to start a fight with some residents.
One resident told police Largent had been in front of her home with his two pit-bull type bulldogs trying to "entice (her puppy) to fight with his dogs," the report stated. She repeatedly told Largent to leave and he reportedly stated he would "sick his dogs on her," she told police.
Largent then reportedly let go of the leashes and the two bulldogs repeatedly attacked the puppy injuring it and causing it to bleed badly, the report stated. The victim said Largent went onto her property and took his dogs from her yard.
This started an argument with neighbors. Largent threatened to sick his dogs on them as well, the report stated.
Largent reportedly went home and came back with the approximately 21-inch sword and 15-inch knife. He then made threats to kill one of the other neighbors, according to the report.
Once under arrest Largent reportedly tried to kick the rear driver's side window and was placed into leg restraints, the report stated. He then tried to hit the window with his head and was placed into a seat belt restraint.
The assault on the law enforcement officer charges reportedly occurred when Largent spit on police officer Tommy Haralson and then tried to bite him.
