WAUCHULA — The Avon Park girls soccer team tallied its second win of the season against the Hardee Wildcats in a Class 4A-District 10 match-up at Wildcat Stadium on Thursday, winning 3-0.
Missy Lander, who has been a vocal leader on the field for Avon Park, was one of three that scored for the Red Devils, who have earned both victories this season against the 'Cats.
"We are passing the ball so much better now," said AP head coach Greg Thacker. "I finally have a squad that will stick with the program, and are working hard."
Thacker moved Lander to the forward position and has been pleased with the decision.
"Missy gives us a lot of push up front," Thacker said. "That has opened up the field and created a lot more scoring chances than we were getting earlier in the season."
The Red Devils have lost five girls from the team due to different circumstances, but Thacker is pleased with the work that his current group has been displaying on the field.
"They are finally coming together as a team," the AP skipper said. "I've brought up some girls from the junior varsity that are starting to pan out. This team just needs a bit more seasoning and I think we'll be okay.".
Avon Park is back on the field Tuesday, when they host the DeSoto Bulldogs in a district match, with the game starting at 7 p.m.
