Calling LP Jaycees

Published: December 7, 2007

The Lake Placid Jaycees have been hosting the annual Lake Placid Christmas Parade for over 35 years. Due to the small size of our club, it has become more of a project than we can handle.

Unfortunately, 2006 was our last year for hosting the parade. The chamber of commerce and the town of Lake Placid have graciously agreed to step in and co-host the 2007 parade. We have always received generous accolades from the community regarding the parade and wish both the chamber and the town all the success with this event.

The chamber wants to thank the Jaycees for their past contributions and have given us the honor of being the grand marshas of the 2007 Christmas Parade. We would like to share that honor with all past and present Jaycees. Contact Leah Wilson at 465-3821 if you want to join us as grand marshals.

Who are the Lake Placid Jaycees? We are a group of civic-minded individuals who enjoy doing good things for our community. We love living in Lake Placid and feel we should contribute to the efforts of many organizations to keep it the beautiful town that it is.

We are a small club with a large purpose to help those in need. We have offered financial assistance to families facing a health crisis, supported local school projects, labored along with many others helping with hurricane relief, shared the holiday spirit with local foster children by hosting an ice cream social with Santa, and continue to raise funds for postage to mail care packages to the troops serving overseas.

Our biggest project is the July 4th fireworks display. This is a huge project for our small group as we have to raise nearly $12,000 to cover expenses.

If you've been a Jaycees member in the past, thank you for all your hard work. If you've supported a Jaycees project in the past, thank you for your contribution. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a Jaycee, call Colleen at 441-1799.
