I'm not prone to writing letters to the editor, unless I see or read something in the paper that really "cheeses me off."
What has gotten my "knickers in a twist" this time is not something from the paper, but what our "County Mounties" are doing. Don't get me wrong, I highly respect our sheriff's deputies, it's what some of them have been doing by parking in a handicap spot that is upsetting.
Once a week I have my hair done at a beauty salon on North Main Street in Lake Placid. Having a legitimate handicap sticker, it is most helpful for me to be able to park in a handicap zone.
At least three times I have observed an unmarked sheriff's automobile parked in a handicap space; not just for a few minutes, but up to an hour.
When an individual has a physical condition that makes walking most difficult, having someone park where they should not gets my dander up. I realize by speaking up, I'm putting a target on my back and the men and women who enforce the law won't like what I have to say. However, as a New Englander originally, I speak as I find.
So come on guys, park in the lot that is provided for the shops on North Main. I'm pretty sure the police are not hiring handicap people.
