The Rotary Club of Lake Placid hopes to make some money for its charitable work and give area businesses an opportunity to promote their home-related products and services.
The club will be putting on its 2010 Heartland Home & Patio Show this coming weekend. It will be held March 6 and 7 at the American Legion Hall, 1490 U.S. 27 N., in Lake Placid.
The hours of the free show are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday.
There will be door prizes, vendor demonstrations and food.
Proceeds from the show will be used to support the club's charitable work, which includes youth scholarships, donations to local schools, disaster relief and many other community and vocational service projects.
This is the first time the club has organized a show like this, according to Lee Dyce, the club's treasurer. Dyce said the club was looking for a fundraiser it could do on an annual basis.
She noted that Richard Bohlman, the president of the club, heard that another Rotary Club outside of Florida had put on a similar show and that it was very successful.
Dyce noted that with the construction industry and other related companies struggling due to the economy, the club thought the show might be able to help them generate some business.
"It is a good venue to show their wares," she said.
A limited number of indoor and outdoor display spaces are still available. The inside space is 8 feet by 8 feet and the outside is 10 by 10.
