Seminar set on starting small business
AVON PARK - "Steps To Start A Small Business" is a free two-hour seminar presented by the Small Business Development Center at USF.
It will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at South Florida Community College in Building T from 2 to 4 p.m. It is designed for persons thinking of starting a small business or who have started a business and want to make sure they did it correctly. Licenses, marketing, entity selection, and business planning are among the items discussed.
The seminar will be presented by Bill McKown, certified business analyst with the SBDC. Call McKown at 863-784-7379 to reserve a space in the seminar or for more information.
Dance school moves into Mid Town Center
LAKE PLACID - MDG Capital Corp. announced its newest tenant, Amy's School of Dance, to be located in Mid Town Center at 127 Tower St. in Lake Placid.
Amy's School of Dance is owned and operated by Amy Moretz of Lake Placid.
According to Bill Klohn, president of MDG Capital, the dance studio recently opened and occupies 1,568 square feet within the 10,000 square-foot building, which is the first phase of four phases of Mid Town Center.
Moretz opened the dance school in 1995. Classes are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
"The students are overwhelmed by the larger dance area with the fantastic floor, great mirrors and new bars," Moretz said. "The parents are also very happy with the roomy waiting area with the larger observation window. Everyone loves the new studio."
TDC reschedules meeting

Curves in Avon Park offering free program
AVON PARK - In recognition of National Women's Health and Fitness Day on Sept 30, the Curves location in Avon Park is offering its no cost, 30-Day Diet Plan program for all women interested in weight-loss results and health improvement.
All classes are available at no fee and no membership is required. The classes are administered by hands-on activities facilitated by weight management coaches from Curves and DVDs that provide lessons by Curves' registered dietitian Nadia Rodman.
Christy Meyer bought the Avon Park location, at 1011 U.S. 27 S., from Katheran Lawens in July of this year.
Meyer was a member of Curves and then worked for Lawens, who owns the two Sebring Curves locations, for a little more than a year.
Lake Placid Realtors to meet
LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Board of Realtors October general membership meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Elks Club.
The guest speaker is Florida Association of Realtors North Florida political representative Jack Greacen. District 10 RPAC Trustee Ben Crosby will also be a guest.
The cost to attend the meeting is $8. The meeting is for Realtor and affiliate members of the Lake Placid Board of Realtors and invited guests. Checks should be made out to the Lake Placid Board of Realtors.

Members are being asked to bring a bag of store-bought wrapped candy to the meeting for the Lake Placid Merchants Association Fall Festival, which will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at DeVane Park.
