Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealers in the Orlando region reported a 10 percent increase in retail sales in August as customer demand for Ford's fuel-efficient cars, crossovers and trucks enabled Ford to post its second consecutive increase in monthly sales.

From a national perspective, Ford's total sales - including fleet customer deliveries were 176,323, up 17 percent versus last year.

"We had a great August, with customers filling our showrooms to take advantage of the government's Cash for Clunkers program," said Brian Jarrett, dealer principal of Jarrett Ford Dealerships with locations in Winter Haven, Davenport, Dade City, Plant City and Avon Park, in a press release. "But we also experienced strong showroom traffic with customers who did not have a qualifying vehicle under the program, but were interested in our fresh showroom of new, fuel-efficient vehicles."
