EDC to hold planning retreat

SEBRING - The meeting and planning retreat for the Highlands County IDA/EDC Board of Directors will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7 in the SFCC Board Room in Building F, 600 W. College Drive in Avon Park.

TDC to meet

SEBRING - The Highlands County Tourist Development Council will hold its regular meeting at 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agricultural Center, Conference Room 2, 4905 George Blvd., in Sebring.

A presentation will be made by Keep Highlands County Beautiful during the meeting.

Benton to speak to LP Chamber of Commerce

LAKE PLACID - The Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon will be held at noon Oct 14 at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge.

The cost is $8 per person. Soup and salad bar will be offered.

Highlands County Sheriff Susan Benton will be speaking on the latest scams in the area that are targeting businesses. The sheriff's office will also have available materials from FDLE regarding Business Watch for domestic security.

SFCC and Florida Home Health to host women's seminar

AVON PARK - Florida Home Health and South Florida Community College invite the public to the Women's Health Symposium on Friday, Oct. 16 at the SFCC Building B, Room B112.

The free event is a day-long health education fair featuring physician and clinician speakers from across Highlands County speaking on the topics of diabetes, mind, body and soul, women's sexual health, diet and exercise.

It will begin at 8 a.m. and sessions will continue through 4 p.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as goodie bags and lots of door prizes.

Deadline set for EDC banquet

SEBRING - The Highlands County Economic Development Commission will hold its annual banquet and membership meeting Thursday, Oct. 29 at the Quality Inn Conference Center, 6525 U.S. 27 N., in Sebring.

There will be a social hour at 6 p.m. and a buffet dinner at 7.

Calypso music will be played during the social hour by the Walker Memorial Academy Steel Drum Band.

The cost is $30 per person.

The deadline is Oct. 22.

Sebring Chamber schedules breakfast meeting

SEBRING - The Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce membership breakfast is set for 6:45 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Kenilworth Lodge.

The breakfast will be sponsored by South Florida Community College. The program will be about the Career Academy.

Tri-Chamber Mixer slated

SEBRING - A Tri-Chamber Mixer and Business Expo will be held from 5 -7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Highlands Little Theatre, 356 W. Center Ave., in Sebring.

LaBelle receives scholarship

SEBRING - The Palms of Sebring announces that Jennifer LaBelle, LPN, is the 2009 Florida Health Care Association recipient of the Bruce Taylor Scholarship Award. This scholarship will help LaBelle toward her goal of becoming a registered nurse.

A native Floridian, LaBelle has one son and has been a resident of Highlands County since 1986. She graduated in 2007 from SFCC.
