FHREDI to host broadband summit

SEBRING - Florida's Heartland Innovation Network Summit will be held from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. June 3 at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agricultural Center, 4509 George Blvd., in Sebring.

Florida's Heartland Rural Economic Development Initiative is hosting the meeting to discuss a broadband access initiative for federal stimulus money for the region.

Lake Placid Realtors to meet

LAKE PLACID - The next Lake Placid Board of Realtors general membership meeting will be Wednesday, June 3 at the Elks Lodge, 200 County Road 621.

Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The June program will highlight the Realtors Political Action Committee. The guest speaker will be District 10 RPAC Trustee Ben Crosby and Lake Placid RPAC Chair Marlene Ramos.

The cost to attend the meeting is $8. The meeting is for Realtor and affiliate members of the Lake Placid Board of Realtors and invited guests only. Checks should be made out to the Lake Placid Board of Realtors.

TDC meeting rescheduled

SEBRING - The Highlands County Tourist Development Council has rescheduled its June meeting.

The council usually meets the first week of the month. It has changed the date to June 18 at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agricultural Center, 4509 George Blvd., in Sebring.

Brian Monk joins law firm

LAKELAND - Brian Monk has joined the law firm of Sessums & Sessums P.A.

Monk is originally from Michigan, but grew up in Tampa where he attended Jesuit High School.

He is a former Marion County prosecutor with 45 jury trials to his credit. His experience includes estate planning, workers compensation, criminal defense and family law. He is a graduate of theUniversityofFloridawhere he earned his undergraduate, master's in counseling and juris doctorate.

The firm is located inLakelandoffSouth Florida Avenueat625 Commerce Drive, Suite 304. The firm also maintains an office in Sebring at559 S. Commerce Ave.

Sessums & Sessums is a civil law firm practicing in the following areas: personal injury and wrongful death, general civil law; marital and family law, business and banking law, appellate law and representation of professional athletes. With the addition of Monk, the firm will expand its services to include criminal defense and estate planning.

The principal partners are Mark and Stephen Sessums, a son and father team with 68 years of combined legal experience.

Roadhouse Grill to hold party for charity event

SEBRING - The Sebring Roadhouse Grill "Gives Back to the Community" kickoff party will begin at 1 p.m. today at the restaurant, 521 U.S. 27 N.

During the month of June, the restaurant will donate 10 percent of every guest check to charity.

Wauchula State Bank announces scholarship recipients

WAUCHULA - Wauchula State Bank has announced its college scholarship recipients for this year.

Receiving $500 scholarships from the class of 2009 are: Tiffany Tolentino, Avon Park High School; Cody Breen, Sebring High School; Rosa Centeno, Lake Placid High School; Maribel Visaraga, Hardee High School.

AP Chamber schedules annual banquet

AVON PARK - The Avon Park Chamber of Commerce will hold its 2009 banquet Thursday, June 4 at the Avon Park Community Center.

There will be a social hour beginning at 6 p.m., with the dinner to follow at 7.

The cost is $35 per person.

The banquet, which will include a silent auction and entertainment, will have a 1950s theme.
