SEBRING - A series of free workshops covering basic financial principals and geared for teens and young adults is being planned at the YMCA of Highlands County.
A meeting for parents who would like to have their children participate will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at the Y, which is located at 100 YMCA Lane in Sebring. Parents will be able to register and decide the dates for the workshops.
"Not a lot of schools have access to financial education," said Mike Brown, office manager of the Sebring office of Primerica Financial Services.
Brown said he attended a seminar several months ago in Orlando featuring Denis Cauvier and Alan Lysaght, the authors the "ABCs of Making Money." Cauvier and Lysaght wrote a sequel "ABCs of Making Money 4 Teens."
A partnership was set up with Primerica picking up the cost of the books used in the workshops.
"We will go over a lot of things teens are facing," Brown said, including how to set up a budget.
Brown and Ginger Carlisle, regional vice president of the Sebring office, will be attending the workshops.
The workshops are open to a limited number of participants.
Brown said any church or civic organization that is interested in hosting similar workshops should call him at 471-0345.
