AVON PARK - Dr. T. Hunter Newsom's new office in Avon Park will open Monday, and to mark the occasion a grand opening is planned for this weekend.
The office is located 1023 U.S. 27 S. Office hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The grand opening will be held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
The doctors will attend and tours of the office will be given. Free vision screening for children will be offered as well as free cataract, glaucoma and diabetic screening.
All glasses and sunglasses will be 50 percent off that day. Attendees may register for free LASIK eye surgery and also for laser hair removal. There will be a live radio broadcast, refreshments and giveaways.
Newsom, Jane Bucci, OD, Curtiss R. Johnson, OD, will be the doctors staffing the office.
Dr. Johnson will be at the Avon Park office the majority of the time. He is a board certified optometrist with nearly 20 years experience.
He speciliazed in primary care optometry including pediatric and geriatric optometry, contact lens fitting, prism/oculomotor problems, glaucoma management, diabetice ocular disease management, and refractive and cataract surgery pre and post operative care.
Johnson earned a doctor of optometry with honors from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., and associate of arts in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida.
Johnson, who is originally from Jacksonville, has lived in Manatee County for 19 years and Highlands County for two years. His wife of 24 years, Meredith, and their two children, son Casey and daughter Garland, enjoy spending time with their dogs, completing home renovation projects, and all types of art, especially hand thrown pottery.
