LAKE PLACID - Dollar General Store is moving from its location in the Winn-Dixie shopping center in Lake Placid, but the department store is only going across U.S. 27 to a free-standing building.
Dollar General has leased the site of the former hardware store at 108 U.S. 27 N.
Developer Bill Harvey bought the building, which he said is 10,050 square feet, last December. Harvey said he liked the location and believed he could lease the building in a short period of time.
A new roof has been installed and the air conditioning system is being redone. Harvey, who said he is spending a couple of hundred thousand dollars on improvements, is also planning to paint the building's exterior, add some more parking spaces and reseal the parking lot.
Emily Weiss, public relations manager for the retail chain, said there is no projected date for the opening at the new location.
Weiss said Dollar General will be leasing the building and utilizing 8,944 square feet of space. The building is a little larger than its current location which has 8,128 square feet.
Weiss said the company is always evaluating stores when a lease is up for renewal. She said Dollar General looks at the cost of rent, the size of the store and the number of parking spaces.
